Re: Moan of the day.

I bet many people fall into that trap, we have three sets in our house that have HDMI inputs on them but don't have a built in HD tuner. We have a Freesat HD box attached to the set in the lounge but it hardly gets used because non of us can see much difference between the HD and the standard pictur...

Re: Royal Mail Sameday

Have to agree with what Alun and SadJack have said, not great rates, but they will negotiate to some extent and if you have more than one drop they pay a fiver per additional drop, and if you are very lucky and get a double up (only happened to me twice I think) they pay full rate for both loads. I ...

Google Maps - Something that might be useful

This may be common knowledge, but I'll share it anyway. I was just having a play on Google maps on my PC to find somewhere I'm picking up from in the morning and discovered that if you find a business on Google maps, then click "more", then "send" you then get options to send that businesses informa...

Re: Accident Liabilty Mystery

another incident to make me think of fitting cameras on my van  Good point, but by the sounds of it a forward facing camera wouldn't have been any help in this case. So what do you do, fit cameras all around your vehicle? Something that was mentioned on another forum I use was that if the...

Re: Make sure your paperwork is right!

It was rather foolish of him to go over with no paperwork what so ever. I've never done any Europe work myself, but according to what I've just read on Business Link the way I read it the "trader" who supplied the consignment should have provided your mate with a CMR note, and not providing one is p...

Re: Trouble at the pumps

Well the panic seems to have already started in the north west. A friend rang me from Manchester this morning saying he'd seen queues outside 2 filling stations already. I was in Warrington picking up a job for the Lakes and didn't have enough diesel for there and back so pulled into a Shell garage...

Re: breakdown cover

I'm with the AA, and have had my moneys worth out of them as I've been recovered to home four times over the years. Just check the small print as some policys will only recover you to a destination within 15 miles of where you breakdown, not much use if you are a couple of hundred miles away from ho...

Re: Price hike

60p is still a bargain. Agreed. I don't have a major issue with it. To be fair I've been using the postal system less and less over the past few years. My customers, plus a number of the people I sub for are happy to have invoices and POD's emailed to them. I expect many other businesses are using ...

Re: The customer vanishes.

Lack of communication is a pain in the @rse. In the past I've had people offering me subbie work, but their customer hasn't confirmed it and they where just seeing if I was free, but they then never bother to ring back if their customer doesn't want it doing. I've had a customer say "job should be r...

Phone scam

Just a warning, many of you are probably aware of this one anyway. 07049 210655 just rang me and said "hello, hello, can you hear me?" the crackled and cut off! A quick search on the net reveals that this is a known scam, they want you to call the number back and you end up with a hefty bill for doi...

Re: Networks affected by the solar flare

To go back to Peter's orignal post, apparantly Orange made a "configuration change" to it's systems which affected 3G users in some areas on the Orange network (T-Mobile wasn't affected).

There's a bit more info here.

Re: Relay

I used to do this before C.S. got their paws on the MOD contract. Quite often I'd meet a driver at Lymm services who'd come up from Yeovil and then go on to Anglesey, or Lossiemouth. Sometimes there'd be other drivers waiting too, we'd get our loads sorted then shoot off in differnt directions.

Re: Well that's me finshed towing a trailer, which van to bu

I worked on the pumps at weekends in 1979 and their was uproar when we finally put the price per GALLON up to 50p!!!!!!!!!!!! If I've worked it out correctly 50p per gallon = 11.2p per litre  So in 1979 I would have been able to fill my van up for under £6, and I guess thats the 4 st...

Re: Well that's me finshed towing a trailer, which van to bu

Fuel is always going to be cheap in the Middle East until such time that their oil runs dry.

I'd be interested to see how much the pre tax average pump price of fuel in the UK has actually increased by over the last 30 years, I dunno if that information is available from anywhere.

Re: Sat nav or big brother?

Actually, been thinking about this today. If the law was changed, insurance companies could use this data to see if you were speeding before an accident, and maybe refuse to pay out... And the Police could seize it as evidence against you on a speeding prosecution... Or am I talking out of my botto...

Re: Sat nav or big brother?

I heard something interesting recently, your sat nav keeps a log of your GPS position, speed, etc, so it's possbible to extract where you where on at a certain time on any given date, provided your sat nav was switched on of course. Apparantly if you do an update of your sat nav online then some (pr...

Re: Cat goes missing.

It's going on all over the place! Thieving barstewards.

Larger vans and 4X4's are the main targets, the cat's on most small vans and cars tend to be part of the downpipe from the manifold so they are harder for the scum to remove.
