Re: Your opinion please.

Its close on impossible, only 3 brokers (I could ever find) did it, Tony, are you saying it's almost impossible to get courier insurance on a car, or on a car/international driving licence combination. If it's the first then it's concerning as there are lot's of peeps out there using cars/mpv's and...

Re: Android Phones

Wow. This is an old topic! Who's the banned guy?

+1 for Glympse. I now use it instead of locatea.net. Annoys me however that some (office based peeps) that I send the link to still insist on phoning me to see where I am when they can look at their PC, or even their phone and see where I am.

Re: Jobsworth

Another thing I just remembered, if you ever deliver to Festival Shopping Centre in Basingstoke don't try to go into the service area if you're not in a "commercial vehicle". A contact of mine sent his Mrs down there in a Citroen C1 car a few years back with a couple of small boxes of items going to...

Re: Insurance Question.

As for your mate in the black cab, if he looses anything, it's not covered... But he is within the law if he's got 'carrying other people's goods for Hire &Reward' on his policy. I often wonder if taxis are insured for carrying goods without an accompanying passenger, as far as I know a taxi policy...

Re: Jobsworth

Almost 12 months ago I went down to Fareham on a Saturday evening for one of my customers with some parts that where needed for first thing on Sunday morning. I was told that when I collected them I could go straight down drop them off anytime as the gatehouse was manned 24/7. I arrived at 1am on Su...

Re: accounts

I've been using Quickbooks, but as I have the poverty spec version it only allows me to have a maximum of 20 customers which is a pain in the rear as I have to use "work arounds" to get round the issue. I might have a look at Kashflow, looking at the website I'm assuming it's online based rather tha...

Re: UPS Supply Chain Solutions. Partsflow

Royal Mail Sameday had the British Gas contract, I guess this means they have lost it unless this is different work you are talking about. This is high volume heavy totes, containing gas meters. Up to 20+ totes per drop, Ah not the same contract then, RM do emergency parts to engineers for customer...

What is a "discreet courier"

I was listening to Ken Bruce's Popmaster on Radio 2 yesterday morning and he asked the contestant what he did for a living, he replied that he was unemployed but starting a new job in November as a "discreet courier" delivering packages to discreet places. Can't say I've ever heard that term used to...

Re: Camden Parking ticket

I found a bit of info about the photographs, it relates to the old defence of "they never put a ticket on my car". QUOTE: www.thisismoney.co.uk They never put the ticket on my car It used to be the case that if you received a Notice to Owner in the post, but no ticket was applied to your car, then y...

Re: Camden Parking ticket

i must be lucky, in 6 and a bit years I've never had a parking ticket yet. I have an A4 laminated sign that I put in my windscreen showing clearly my contact details and wording on it explaining the vehicle is being loaded/unloaded. I've been led to believe that if a warden tickets you now they have...

Re: Van Mileage

I think with most firms should be ok if your van is tidy, no one has ever asked me about mileage. Royal Mail specify that you should have a white van under 5 years old. When I changed van last December and got a 56 plate (now 6 years old) blue Vauxhall Combo I sent them photos and they where fine wi...

Re: Eagle xpress

I'd tell them to go away in short jerky movements. Your self employed so you can work for who you like. It's nothing to do with them who else you work for, and effectively any other courier you work for could be classed as a "rival". I assume this is the business in question? Personally I've never h...

Re: Cloud cuckoo

I agree with Alun. When I get "how much" from a potential customer I tend to explain it in the terms that what I do is similar to a taxi only for goods, i.e. I pick goods up and take them straight to destination. Most kind of get it then but if they are still not happy I politly suggest they ring a ...

Re: Anyone do work for

Royal Mail's contract with the HPA endded in April this year I think, and as already stated I understand City Sprint now have it. I used to sometimes do some HPA local collections for them, and return the empties on a Friday. In my case taking the empties back was usually a decent job because there ...

Re: multi pick-up and drop-offs best route

A spreadsheet might help. Input all your addresses but have a seperate column for postcode, then sort by postcode and although I don't think it will be perfect you should have some sort of order. You then need to figure out which postcode areas are adjacent to each other, this map will probably help .

Re: Mileages, dead miles, workings

Earlier this year I went up to Inverness empty one evening for one of my customers to collect a load to come back to them in Blackpool, I then took it on to Maidenhead the following day. To me it makes perfect sense to do jobs like that if your more or less part way between the collection and delive...
