Insurance rip-off!

Post by EnsonExpress »

I have a new van on 1st August, got the reg number this morning, so I rang to get a cover note and transfer insurance from 1st August.

Minimum £25 fee to transfer insurance!!!

This is my seventh new van in 14 years and this is the first time ever I have been required to pay a fee to transfer the insurance. Bluddy outrageous. Here I go again doing another trawl round to find different insurers for when my renewal comes up 1st September. And that's a game too - Renault offer van insurance, so I thought I'd give them a chance - new Renault van, they do van insurance, let's give it a try.... "Sorry, we'd only be able to GIT your own goods. Sorry, we can't insure for Courier". So why offer bluddy van insurance when you can't insure a fair proportion of van users?

OK, I'll go off and have a calming cuppa before I start.

It doesn't improve yet. I stuck details into moneysupermarket.com and ended up with 26 quotes, ranging from£1280 to £1780.

And THEN phone calls from all of them to my silly mobile all day long!!!

Some times it is cheaper to cancel the existing policy and start a new one rather than transferring it, a good broker should help you with this.

No and I've paid it. BUT it's £25 more than I've ever paid before - I have NEVER paid to have my policy transferred to my new van and I've done it every two years since 1999. The transfer will be for the last month of the current policy. The broker already makes a decent living out of my (and your) business. I don't expect it to happen with some people, but in a service industry, you might think that with one month of my policy left to run, the broker's office might have the smarts to notice and consider whether my outrage at being asked for the extra £25 (and I really DID express outrage) was worth their concern over whether it might persuade me to look elsewhere for the renewal. But it's not really that, it's my annoyance at yet another little greedy snipe. Every year I have to tell them to delete the extra fee for legal assistance, which I regard much like the PPI, a nice little earner for them.

Here we are, we haven't seen much in the way of increases for our work, yet insurances, fuel, pork pies, fish and chips, you name it, go up relentlessly every year. Where are all those increases going? What's this I hear about recession?

It's strange - every year my no claims bonus goes up. My premiums do too.
