Royal mail sameday

Post by ray valentine »

As things are quiet it was suggested that i sign up with royal mail Same day, and of course it is on line, so i found the site and read what through the list of things i would need, as i did not have the DBS certificate i had to wait a few days for it to arrive and then armed with all the relevant documents scanned into the computer i set about filling in the on line form. I then found they were asking for more information than the website had said.
I carried on and after giving much more information than i thought they needed i got to the end, and it said they would look through the details and get in touch within 21 days.
Later i checked my emails and found that i had some emails from some one telling me in more detail what they wanted when i filled the form in, why this information is not on the website is beyond me. any way two and a half months latter i have not had a reply.
Has anyone else managed to make contact with them?

I work for Royal Mail but I signed up with them about 10 years ago so I can’t remember much about the process. I seem to remember they needed some ID documents which I dropped off at their office in Peterborough on my way back from a job I’d done to your neck of the woods strangely enough. I’d drop them an email at recruitment@royalmailsameday.com and ask what’s happening.

At the moment I’m getting work from them most days as they’re part of the consortium of courier firms covering the collection of covid samples from testing station and care homes.

Consider the money.
I stopped working foir them because I thought it wasn't worth it. I wasn't prepared to pay for their software and I think they also had a monthly fee (I could be wrong on that). But in any event, the way they treat people is little better than all the others.
At 2 in the morning, I was unhappy to be woken with a job which wouldn't pay well enough.

Things may have changed, i had to fill in a form to agree to unsocial hours, otherwise jobs would only be offered in the working day, i have now completed the first job, and there were more more dead miles than loaded miles, so we came to an arrangement with the price. and i was happy.

I glad you’re happy and hope you continue to be happy.

It was all too much for me - their tracker software at cost to me, running on my smartphone at cost to me (data connection on my phone contract) and them saying what the mileage would be, then their decision on pricing - they never had it coinciding with mine and so I stopped taking jobs unless we negotiated the price (to my satisfaction) before I started the ignition. It was all too much hassle.

If you feel inclined to do so, please let us know how it’s going after a while.

The app is free now but it does eat the battery, as for the data, I have enough on my phone contact to cover it. As I said on my original post this is a decision I made to fill the gaps that Covid19 has created. But now I have received letters from my county council and the government telling me not to go to work, so who knows what will happen next

No nothing, and in our line of work getting close to people is not really a problem and a mask and hand jell will probably keep me safe, but, when the hospital consultant and the specialist nurse, my doctor, the government department for housing and my local district council all have written to me and told me if i get Covid it will be very nasty for me and i should stay home and not make contact with anyone, i think i should take a bit of notice of their advice, but as i do not like being told what i can and can not do i still do a bit now and again just to get me out of the house.

Hospital consultant, specialist nurse, doctor, government and council sounds like a lot of people involved in your health and suggests you are mega vulnerable.

Much more than me - I’m just an octogenarian.

I suggest you stay home.

That used to happen to me years ago, but they haven’t called me at stupid o’ clock within the last five years. 95% of the work I do for them now is collecting covid tests.

My overall concern was that their rate was too low. At almost any rate, it is perhaps possible to make an income. But for all the big companies, working as a subbie would only ever be profitable if the courier was given double loads and return loads. Without those, it required ridiculous mileages to make anything like the money they quote to attract new drivers. Doubles and returns were often pipe dreams.

The rate i have worked for has ranged from 75pplm - 100pplm, and as luck would have it as i live just 0.5 miles from the A11 i can have as little as 1 mile un paid miles. Yesterday i had a Yarmouth and Lowestoft to Cambridge, after i picked up i was heading for Cambridge when the phone rang with a Lowestoft to Swindon, so back to lowestoft picked up and headed for cambridge, and the phone rang with a Norwich to Swindon, so back to Norwich, tipped Cambridge and continued to Swindon, i do not suppose that will happen to often. So overall the job was worth doing.

I hope that ALL FOUR jobs were worth doing - if it takes four jobs to make the day worth doing, then it follows that none of the jobs were worth doing as singles.

Yes each job would pay a wage, but put together a very good wage over £26 an hour (after deducting my costs), and i am happy with that, the same thing happened on Sunday, it helps that the van dose over 60mpg.
