How often does this happen

Postby J H Sameday » Thursday 29 July 2010, 11:15

Guy phoned earlier this morning with a job from a Wholesale plumbers merchant in Cradley Heath West Midlands to a residential address in North London, got the guys name and phone number and we agreed cash on delivery. Off I go the Cradley Heath to pick up the two boxes of stuff the had ordered only to be told by the Plumbers merchant they were not sending the goods because of the customers bad credit history. I did a 29 mile round trip for nothing. I think if this happens again I will get the phone number of the pick up and check out the situation before leaving home. What a waste eh...... :?:

Plenty of scams like this going on, plenty of people not putting two and two together and working out its a scam.

Biggest give away is ordering items such as boilers etc from a chain hardware show etc and having them delivered miles away when they could have ordered and had delivered from a more local depot etc.

At least you were lucky and didn't end up spending a night in the cells because of it, or worse of having the hell beaten out of you on delivery
The car in front is my crumple zone

Yes, there must be hundreds of Plumbers merchants in the London area. I suppose this is an easy scam for criminals...........

I had that once, pick up from a plumbers merchant in Cambridge and deliver to Epping for cash. Good job the merchants was on the ball as they had a feeling their customers order numbers was being used fraudulently.

Skanky rip off bottomholes trying to get me involved in their wrong doings.

So once upon a time I went to a regular customer in W1, to be told that the goods had been collected 20 min previously by a bloke in a big Luton - and I was driving the only Luton we had.

No job for me, customer was ripped off ...

Customers should ALWAYS note the reg of the van they put the goods into. TELL THE CUSTOMERS, it can help the plods to stop the bandits.

Might save me a 45 min stooge around as well ...

You'l find its anything to do from plumbers to hire companies.
Even some that hack company accounts.
Just make sure you check them out before you goto collect, even if you have to google company names and call them direct to confirm details. (even then they might think you are in with the scam) best avoid them completely.

I never take cash bookings over the phone now. been stung by the Police twice, hours in a cell just to be told no charges would be bought.

No such thing as a 'free' lunch.
If it sounds too good to be true....................It is!

Always a catch if someone wants to pay cash, why the hell would they?

There is a couple of guys in cahoots together.
1 is a scouser the other is a Londoner.
They called me a couple of times. soon weighed them up.
Also a HUGE black guy that does actually meet up with you and pay the cash.
I was called out to a local hire company to collect power tools a couple of years ago.
I decided to take a second person with me, made him sign a POD and took a sneaky pic of him (and his car) while we was unloading the van.
Then took all the details back to the hire company and gave them to the guy.
Low and behold a few weeks later......... Police knocked my door and "thanked" me for being on the ball............ even though they didnt catch the guy but had other descriptions which linked him to other scams. but wanted me to confirm the details which i did by showing them a copy of the POD and pics of the guy and the "hire car". 8)
